چکیده
The eco-efficiency evaluation in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is used to know and improve the environmental economic efficiency of these processes, systems, products, services. evaluations WWTP contemplate inputs be minimized, desirable results maximized, undesired minimized. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) a widely method evaluate WWTPs; integrating several approaches single index, traditional DEA models do not take into account uncertainty data. This study evaluates sample Catalan WWTPs, considering data (DEA tolerance model), it for first time that together with CO2, other greenhouse gas (GHG) such as CH4 N2O are considered part process outputs. GHG emissions were quantified using methods reported literature. Seven hundred twenty-nine scores estimated each instead score like conventional models, analyzing optimistic pessimistic scenarios. WWTPs classified according scores, accounting scenarios, demonstrating changes performance different Only two eco-efficient all scenarios evaluated. approach provides essential information innovation sector.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Wastewater Treatment System
Besides its great potential in controlling water pollution from different sources, waste water treatment system generates significant amount of greenhouse gases. Hence, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases from the wastewater treatment plants is the major concern. The correct understanding and estimation of the greenhouse gases emitted from different points of the plan is essential to tack...
متن کاملMeasuring the efficiency of wastewater services through Data Envelopment Analysis.
Efficient water management is a priority in the European Union, since the operational efficiency of many water utilities is very low compared to best practice. Several countries are restructuring the water industry to save costs. Larger-scale operations and vertical integration are promoted to achieve scale and scope economies; however, the literature is not unanimous that such economies exist....
متن کاملEco-efficiency analysis of power plants: An extension of data envelopment analysis
In public discussion on environmental policy, the notion of eco-efficiency is often used. The joint production of goods and undesirable outputs, such as pollutants which may not be freely disposable without costs, cause difficulties to measure the overall performance of the firm. Because of the absence of market prices for the undesirable outputs, we are not able to estimate the environmental c...
متن کاملEvaluating eco-efficiency with data envelopment analysis: an analytical reexamination
This paper reexamines the unintended consequences of the two widely cited models for measuring environmental efficiency—the hyperbolic efficiency model (HEM) and directional distance function (DDF). I prove the existence of three main problems: (1) these two models are not monotonic in undesirable outputs (i.e., a firm’s efficiency may increase when polluting more, and vice versa), (2) strongly...
متن کاملEco-Efficiency Evaluation Considering Environmental Stringency
This paper proposes an extended data envelopment analysis (DEA) model for deriving eco-efficiency. In order to derive eco-efficiency, the proposed model utilizes the concepts of operational efficiency and environmental efficiency. Since DEA can separately measure operational efficiency and environmental efficiency, the treatment for constructing the unified indicator is required to ultimately e...
